CAPER Company C-4
and
Fourth Regimental Headquarters

CAPER Company C-4 was located at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.  The unit probably was chartered some time in the 1968-69 school year. I remember when this Company was chartered, as it was the largest company ever chartered!

When I started the process of selecting Regimental Headquarters, I immediately thought about C-4.  First because they were so large and also because they were located at the same University as Pershing Rifles Fourth Regiment.  I first met staff members of Pershing Rifles 4th Regiment at the 1968 Spring National Convention (her first) and liked them immediately.  Plus when I was handling expansion in the fall of 1970, P/R COL Bob Shelton appointed Pam Craft (one of the CAPERS) as CAPER Coordinator.  I was glad that CAPER Company C-4 accepted the CAPER Fourth Regimental Headquarters.  The first Regimental Commander was Pam Keeter.  I only recently realized that Pam Craft got married that summer and her married name was Keeter!!!! She left campus at semester break and COL Mary Smith took command for second semester.

According to the 1971 Clemson yearbook, Company C-4 won the coed division of the 4th Regimental Drill Meet.

Recently I talked to one of the younger CAPER alumni, Lisa Vogel Pickens, who is married to a P/R Bill Pickens.  Bill older sister, Katie Pickens, the 1970-71 CAPER Company C-4 Commander.  Unfortunately, Katie died of cancer in 1980.
